Nigerian Dwarf Goats

We have a small herd of Nigerians on the farm.  We show them at local shows with the goal to improve show quality.  Not only do we aim for show goats but also to breed healthy goats that need limited supplementing.  Nigerians were once considering a threatened heritage breed until 2013 when they were taken off of the Livestock Conservancy Priority List.  Heritage breeds are known for their hardiness, parasite resistance, and fertility.  With these traits in mind we aim to create a show quality animals with these traits present.  We are proud members of the American Goat Society and the American Dairy Goat Association.   Thanks to a grant from Farm Credit East we are now able to attempt AI (artificial insemination).  We are excited to have retained our first AI doeling!

Guernsey Goats

In 2024 we have welcomed our first Guernsey all the way from Idaho.  We are so excited to welcome Treasured Sunrise DulceCajeta to the herd as the start of our Guernsey project.  The Golden Guernsey is a rare breed which originated in the Channel Islands off the coast of Britain.  The Guernsey in the US was developed using genetics of the rare Golden Guernsey breed from the island of Guernsey in the English Channel.  To try to establish a GG-type breed in the US,, Guernsey enthusiasts are grading up to British Guernsey (BG) status, using US female dairy goats of appropriate size and type with GG semen imported from the UK, to establish a GG-type US herd.  Adding this breed to our farm will further our milk production as well as preservation efforts.
